j.C.WHITNEY has two styles of led arays, (one is a spring loaded star that opens up once the base is installed in the tail light housing. that replaces the original incandescent bulbs, the only problem they state, is you may have to change flashers.

Don't get the simple replacements that aren't the web deal. I got standard LED bulbs and they did nothing. They were actually worse, since the taillights on the S10 that had them rely on the bulb using the reflector of the lense (like most vehicles). This resulted in just a single bright dot in the center of my taillight. So now I'm back to standard bulbs. It'd be cool if you can find a board to fill up the entire surface area of the light.

yes today led lights are best. There rates are getting lower and quality is nice. We must use them to save energy

These guys are right, I used the flat style first and they are worse then stock. I then went to this style and holy moly  they are bright. I also found out they work even better if you paint the factory reflector inside the fake chrome paint, and then install this bulb and your lens, works pretty awesome, lights up the whole lens now. As someone said you still need to utilize your factory reflector unless you make a board of leds just for your housing.
