Hey Guys, I need some help . My for the V8 wiring harness is pretty much shot! That is the harness under the hood, from the firewall to engine. I'd love to find one of you guys that has one that they are willing to part with. But i know the chances of that are slim. What other cars would I be able to use one from? I would think that I could use one from a Nova of something similar, 75-80 model wise. It should just unbolt from the firewall and bolt back up, correctI thank you for any help. Eric(eskmf5@aol.com) .

When I needed a wiring harness, I took my car to a local electrial shop and had them make one. Worked out really good and the only problems I have had is when I store it for winter. The mice eat out the wiring :(

another choice

When my original 75 262 v8 harness was tied down to the top of the bell housing area behind the head;s  I retaped the wiring harness and added a new split cover near the fuse block and ran it  under the cowl ledge over to the left of the distributor,, passenger side to the remote starter solenoid near the panel for the heater core,,,, it gave it more length,,, the, only choice I had,,,I am not familar with the v6 or 4 cylinder wiring harness hope this helps ,,,,,Mike on the above post please leave the apropriate amount of "winter feed",,,,D-con,, and a place with water,,, or ask the wiring guru to wash his hand's after breakfast/ lunch and dinner....

I am guessing you dont wanna rewire the whole car but I am using a painless wiring harness.

Its a universal/drag harness...I dont recall if it is 12 or 18 circuit...I think 12...but its very complete and was relatively affordable....esspecially when you compare it to paying an electrical guy to go through it all at a rate of $80 an hour....before including parts.

I think new they are about $300...I got mine from a speed shop that was clearancing some items out. The painless kits are lifetime warranty too.

It has all the extra nice provisions for more accesories like an electric fan and two electric fuel pumps as well as some universal accesories.

I think the part numbers was 50002

Works great and is very hi quality.

God bless

Peterpan, thanks for the thought . I'd love it if you could help me out. But I think that I might be ahead of you in dropping my motor back in. But if you think that it wouldn't be to long before you knew what you may or may not have. Let me know. Eric

Eric, I have the same situation, a '77 V8 harness that will be surplus if the one currently in the car is good. I'm a good month away from that though.

Kevin, I here you buddy. The thought counts, and I'll keep you in mind also.Wish you could help now though.Lol,Lol. But I do understand. We started cleaning everything up over the weekend and prepare the engine bay for the motor to go back in. And we cleaned all the crude away from a sad, sad, looking wiring harness. I've learned from the past, if I try running the car with the harness in this type shape ,it'll be headache's down the road. I do really think that I should be able to use another GM harness. Maybe Nova, Malibu,262-350. I'd know they bolt up the same to the firewall harness, but they just may be longer wires. I wouldn't have any problem working with it ,if it were in good shape. Thanks again Kevin. Eric(eskmf5@aol.com)

If you can get your hands on a good V6 one, and a good wiring diagram for the V8, you can pretty easily change whats needed to get it to work on the V8 and look fairly decent.

Marco, I'd almost try that one too. In fact , I think that I could actually do that myself , maybe match it up to the one I have now. But I still need the donor harness. So now , does anyone have a V8 or V6 harness? Lol,lol. Man, I just need something to work with that just isn't fully shot!! Any help would truly be appreciated. Eric(eskmf5@aol.com)

Well, I was hoping I'd wake up this morning and see that someone had provided a harness. No luck, so I guess I have to take one out of my 77 V6. Almost everything is disconnected under the hood, but I don't know what's involved after that. I'm hoping its just one big connector and I'm done. And hopefully it "isn't fully shot!!" I have low standards for things like that.

Firewall connetor is 3 piece, 1 inside passenger compartment mounted to the back of the fuse block, 2 piece in the engine compartment, 1 side engine power/alt supply. The other side, front lighting. To release the plugs there is bolt holding them together, and two bolts holding the mainplug into the firewall those bolts also hold the fuse block. To release the wires from the plug halvs, you can insert a small regular screw driver along side the terminal from the face side not the wire side then tug on the wire it should pull out. You can get new terminals from a gm dealer, crimp them on the new wire and pop them in the old plug.

Madness, Thanks for the details . I do remember the engine compartment harness was 2 pieces , one for the engine and the other for the headlights/ running lights. Thanks again. Eric(eskmf5@aol.com)
