Starter problem

Postby DjTy » Mon Aug 06, 2007 2:26 am

well got towed home again... no cranking at all,
what we swapped were:
-batteries
-the remote solenoid.
-hitting starter with hammer.
-letting it cool down completely

still same thing happens, emote solenoid clacks (also the swapped one) but no cranking in the very slightest nor any other apparent activity at the engine's flywheel (no engage I think, nor any whine)...

Maybe the starter itself is fragged? Just guessing since you've replaced the starter solenoid and battery.

Sounds like the starter, you should at least here the Bendix drive kick in to the flywheel.

Ty how old was the starter? If it is the truck original, the brushes could be gone (no crank)

Ty I would be intrested in knowing how you have the remote solenoid wired with the gm starter solenoid, becuase if you have no switched power to the "s" terminal on the gm starter it will not work.

I know the summit remote solenoid kits include a jumper that goes from the battery post on the starter to the "S" terminal.

I'm afraid to ask, Ty, but did you see if the engine turns over by hand? I would hate to think that it doesn't start because the engine is locked up, after all you've been through.

hey guys, resulted to be on the starter itself the bridge to the ignition that came loose.

working again like a charm (for now until I figure out a way to get the damn starter out to fix it completely.)

some roads here have lots of bumps and holes and just before it did this I drove on one....

either way now I have another (probably small) problem... the TH350 won't shift from the park position...

My guess is that it does this when the oil is low? (new packing on the oilpan of the tranny didn't help)

I assume that the gear selector moves ok, but it just won't go into gear? Checking the fluid level should be first on your list. Engine needs to be running with the car in Park.

If the shifter is stuck in park have someone rock the car front to back while you try to shift. It may just be caught on a bind. It could also be a bad cable. Low fluid shouldn't cause it (unless it's been low for 20 yrs, sat in mud and rusted fast).

Yeah, xlch is probably right, too much pressure on parking awl or broken cable.
