This looks like a good thread to hijack. I went to the junkyard and found a nice looking 12si alternator. i read somewhere on the internet (so it must be true) that if the rectifier fins are curved then its a 94 amp. It looks like its a direct bolt -in but there's one thing that has me wondering. On one of the 4 bolts that hold the thing together there's a small tag with the letter "N" stamped on it. Anyone got a clue why its there? Thanks.

I've seen lots of tags/stickers on alternators over the years, usually just a rebuilders way of marking a unit.

www.madelectrical.com is just super on this. Tells why 3 wire alternator is better than 1 wire. Tells of high power alternators. Tells of proper wiring systems in a manner anyone can understand.

12SI alternator is a direct bolt in for stock 10SI style.

See my Modifications list in the Garage.

Exactly the same dimensions in every way

Even the pulley mine came with was the correct size.

I might try swapping the stock pulley over because it is deeper and the belt sits in it lower.

Thanks , do you know what car- truck that alternator was stock on? My 32 amp is barely cutting now but when I start racing later in the season when it gets hotter and they shift to nights, I'll be in trouble. Doug in Az 8)

The old 84 Citation sitting in my back yard with the tired 151 also has the 94 amp 12 SI brand new in it.

Looks like I'll be borrowing it!
