smoking alternator

HELP!! I just installed a new alternator on my car hooked the wires back up connected battery and after about 2 min. later I noticed a small amount of smoke comming from the alternator. I disconneted the battery checked the wiring and all looked good. Never started just sitting there it stated to smoke a little bit. Any ideas Thanks

Defective alternator.

figured it out! it is possiable to plug the 2 wire connector on top of the alternator in backwards!

A friend of mine did that once. Yeah, that's right, it was a friend of mine who did it. Wasn't me. But it wasn't his fault. the clip was broken and it could go in either way.
