Postby AusRs » Sun Mar 16, 2008 6:31 am

2002 3.7 auto 68000kilometers

what i have done to date
cleaned iac
removed and cleaned throttle body

re assembled and still not fixed
researched the net and found i have a very common problem YET no one appears to have found a fix for it
i did remove the throttle body again and found that the idle stop is not part of the casting so i screwed it out 1 turn .........result is ........Jeep idles again
is this the correct fix OR should i be looking for something else ????

Check with your Chrysler dealer. Some Durangos have an idle problem, turns out the IAC motor is at fault. The maintenance guy at work had an idle that would do whatever it wanted, high or low. The IAC motor cured it.

Take your IAC off. Got to dealer and test drive a Liberty. Park in secluded area and swap IAC. Return to dealer and tell them the Liberty has an idle problem. Go home and instal the new IAC.

$300 for an IAC motor? That's fricking highway robbery.

I was going to suggest that if it's a problem only when decelerating to a stop it could also be the TCC solenoid not disengaging. If it's only when the engine is idling and not when decelerating to a stop it's definitely not the TCC solenoid.

Adjusting the IAC a turn on the pintle won't do anything. The PCM will reset the IAC again, anyway. The PCM is doing the equivalent if you adjusting the idle screw on the carb. It's totally automated and you can override it temporarily by messing with the pintle.
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.

Did Chrysler say there is a problem with the IAC? I would have them check for a Technical Service Bulletin. If it has a problem, it may be covered by the warranty.
