Oil switch/fuel pump question

Postby Satinblack » Fri Apr 25, 2008 11:12 am

I was reading something and it said the oil pressure is tied to the feul pump.

Where is this?

I bought aftermarket gauges and the 4.3 has oil pressure sending unit on rear of engine in the intake like a 350 does. Is that tied to the fuel pump or is that something totally different....

Cant wait till I get a manual for this thing

Don't know what you've got to look at but stock the oil sender has 3 large wires hooked to it a purple a pink and blue, if you jump across the 2 side wires the fuel pump should run just turning on the key.

H bodies with electric pumps receive their power through the oil pressure sender. If the oil pressure drops it cuts off power to the fuel pump. This is a safety device in the event of a accident, it keeps fuel from being pumped if the engine is stopped. While it can be bypassed for emergency use, I wouldn't suggest leaving it like that. The oil sender unit is at the rear of the engine near the distributor.
