Instrument panel light

Postby Las_Vega77 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 9:19 am

Has anyone fixed an instrument panel light problem? Mine has been out since I've bought my car and its pretty tricky determining your speed by the sound of the engine at night. I do not have a wiring diagram or book yet, but if anyone has already fixed a problem like this and would like to steer me into the right direction it would help. I'm going to be honest electrical and wiring is my weakest points and I have very little experience in working on dash clusters and instrument panels. I'm not even sure if it is just a light that might be blown in the dash or what. I've checked and replaced all fuse in the fuse box so i know that is good. Anyways like I said advice is much needed and helpful. Thanks.

Here's what I would do next... check any ground connections you can see and make sure there still good.

Then I'd resort to the wiggle test.

Most instrument lights I have repaired where either bad/rusty/corroded grounds at the bulb socket, the bulb itself, or bad/rusty connections where the fuse clips in at the fuse box and ofcoarse double check those fuses, and maybe the light switch and connections.
Good luck.

I know this sounds dumb, but are you sure you dont have them dimmed all the way down? the light switch-dimmer rotates and dims the bulbs, something to check

There are a lot of bulbs in the instrument panel so if they are all out it has to be something other than the bulbs or sockets. Besides checking the dimmer did you check the fuse? Otherwise it pretty much has to be a main feed line or a bad ground.
