Not exactly sure what you are asking. The negative battery connection goes from the battery terminal to the engine block.

Pics would really help. Some cars have a ground wire that goes to the fender, but the largest ground cable attaches to the heaviest piece of metal you can find, like Clyde said the engine block, not to aluminium. As far as the red-brown going into a bundle of wires by the brake booster, that could be anything, amplifier, lights ect.

Coming from the battery you have 2 cables, the positive goes to the starter and the negative attaches to the engine block. As mentioned, there is also a small wire that is on the negative cable that attaches to the inner fender.

You can see where the negative battery cable attaches to the engine, it is behind the heater hose just to left of alternator.

Hello from B.C. Canada . If I understand or here you right In order to help must also see a pictures of the battery that you bought, where the eng poles ( terminals) connect to. Also the poss (+) and negative ( - ) poles connections or ( terminals ), on the cables to the battery from the engine .
Would love to see more pictures of your car

Is this a "Europian" car with a "Reverse-Polarity" ? If it is, then we definatelly need more info and pic.s will be helpful to diagnose the problem of what wires go where. If it is a "standard " polarity issue, then all of the above in the previous posts. The reason for asking is I'm curious as to the location of the wire heading behind the brake booster. Check that wiring by pulling on it slighty to see if they are even attached to anything. Perhaps those wires are just laid up there and they don't connect to anything right now. If they run down in behind it's likely they go in through the fire wall to the fuse assembly panel under the dash. Just a thought. They could be the wires you need to run over to the battery or even the alternator. These cars don't have much of a wire-harness to the alternator and distibutor area. Send pics. please. :th:
