stray bulb

Postby azbigal » Wed Aug 18, 2010 10:52 am

Hey Folks! I was freshening up my instrument panel with new bulbs and a little dusting... when I came across a bulb socket with no home. It consists of a solid yellow wire and a yellow wire with a black stripe. It does not light up with a turn of the key or when headlights are on. Any ideas? I looked in the service manual and did not see a bulb with this color code. Thanks for you help. AL

Haynes '70 thru '77 Vega shop manual:

It could be your seat belt lamp. It's attached to your seat belt buzzer.
Circuit # 220 yellow.... # 207 yellow with dbl./black.
It would be on the right hand side of your dash (Vega).
Is your seat belt warning buzzer working?

I went through ALL the Vega and Monza diagrams and the only other thing I could find that it might possibly be was a low coolant indicator. Look around under the hood for an unused connector with a yellow /black wire; if you connect it to ground and the light comes on you've found the answer to your mystery.

Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....
