Fuel pump wiring issues?

Postby 80chevmonzacoupe » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:02 pm

Hey guys
I was driving my 80 monza coupe and it just died. I had no fuel what so ever so I got a new fuel pump and slapped it all together, turned the key over still nothing there is a light on in the dash board when the key is turned over. Iv tried 3 other fuel pumps and even my 1979 monza spyder gas tank still nothing. Any clues haha it stumped me.

First place to look is the oil pressure switch; it connects the pump power(blue) to ignition(pink) only when there's oil pressure. At rest, the blue is connected to the violet(start) wire.

Have you checked the fuse? If it's ok you need to take some voltage measurements to see if you have power and a good ground to the pump.

Lol I don't have the wire that goes to the pressure switch. But the rest is all wired the same. So could it be because I don't have that plugged in there's no power going to it? I have checked the fuses there fine too.

I have checked the fuses there fine too. When I got the car some of the wire harness was all chopped up, so I did what i could. Everything good but the pump lol. Is there a 350 mechanical fuel pump that fits passed the v8 motor mount?

Check out V/8Monza.com it shows the modification to the motor mount bracket in order to use a mechanical fuel pump.
You can add the pressure switch in order to power the electric pump, just a little wire splicing and since you mentioned that the harness was botched up it shouldn't be dificult to do.
I am using a Carter after market pump located in front of the tank and using the factory wiring.
I have a 80 monza wiring diagram book and can find the colors and location to splice to if you desire to go that way.
