fuel pump wiring

Postby sportster96blk » Thu Dec 02, 2010 5:35 pm

I'm going to make my fuel line 3/8 and remove in-tank pump but need to retain gas gauge. here's the ? are both wires positive off fuel pump one wire comes from top of sump to fuel pump second wire goes from fuel pump to connecting support to gas gauge then at the other end of the gas gauge there's a grounding wire can i just remove the pump and run the positive wire to connecting support and call it good or does the pump reduce power to that wire. i dont want to blow up....George

The positive wire for the pump should be removed from the sender and maybe even cut at the connector outside the tank(dk. blue). The pump's ground can be removed as well, but the sender still needs to be grounded. Not quite sure what you're asking about hooking the positive wire to the support; sounds like it would cause a fire to me. The sender requires no power; it's a variable ground on the tan wire.
