Heater

I'm thinking about taking all the heater components out and off my fire wall and plating it off any ideas of what I'd be getting myself into

Is this with AC or just a heater? Why are you thinking of doing that?

I guess it's a matter of personal taste as far as using a piece of diamond plate. In terms of ditching the heater core I don't think there's any reason removing it along with the two hoses would be any problem. So what kind of pump doesn't have provisions for a heater core outlet?

You of course can do whatever you choose as for removing the heater.
To me diamond plate would draw attention to the cover, smooth plate would be more natural to its surroundings, Painted to match.
The heater return line can be plumbed into the radiator return tank as Chevrolet pickups have done it that way for years.
Myself I'm leaving in the heater as I might want to drive the car in the fall before snow flies and could very well use the heat.

I can't get the heater core back into my box with the amount I had to cut out for the big block. So I am going to run one of these Vintage Air heaters.
They are self contained under the dash.

I will install two grommets into the modified cover and make it appear that a stock core is behind it. This can also be done with a flat panel and you will still have a heater and defrost.

BTW. The original link from Vintage Air would not pull up on this post, so I replaced it with the one above.

this guy built a spacer to move entire box inward.

The Monza core is 8" x 5 5/8x2" (note some listings show slightly different dimensions but I think they are just not including end caps)
ImageThere are a few cores that are thinner that possibly could be adapted to the stock heater box.

Darrin built a heater core out of copper tubing and corrugated aluminum

Did the fellow that built the spacer for the heater box say anything about it hitting the glove box or any other items under the dash after he completed the modification?

Thanks

I pulled my heater box/core/under dash stuff yesterday. Took a whole...10 minutes. I'm going to just screw a plate there with self tappers and RTV until I pull the motor and weld it right. I'll probably fix it right later this year when I paint the engine bay. There's a ton of room, now. :th:
