Wires for stereo

Postby spilopleura » Wed Apr 20, 2011 9:08 pm

My '77 Vega has 3 wires in a harness for the stereo. One orange, one yellow, and one blue. Could anyone tell me what these wires are?

Extra/other/additional channels? For additional speakers, I mean. Or front and rear. :?

The speaker wires are separate from those 3. I think the car only has one speaker. It's in the center of the dash and i have the wires for it. I just wondered which of the orange, yellow and blue are hot, ground, and whatever the 3rd is.

I think it should be...yellow hot all the time and orange switched (ignition) and blue dimmer or interior lights....should be...good luck! :th:

The 3 wires you're talking about are NOT speaker wires; they're for the heater fan resistor pack which plugs into the heater box near the back of the radio. The Vega would only have yellow(acc.) black(ground) and gray(dash light) in one plug and green(sp+) and black or dark green(sp-) on the front speaker plug. A rare optional rear speaker would have blue(+) and black or lt. blue(-) wires on the plug.
Strangely enough, none of the radio wiring appears in the schematics...

Actually, newer GM vehicles still have yellow as acc+ and gray as dimmer and the orange would be bat+. Aftermarket head units have yellow as Bat+ and orange as dimmer and blue as power ant+.
