cooling problems

Postby kev » Sat Sep 17, 2011 4:23 pm

I'm having trouble finding a way to keep my engine cool right now iv got a 160 t-stat and a 12 inch flex fan down the road it sits 190-200 but u stop for more than 2 min its starts to creep up fast. I want to do some electric cooling fans but the clearance is making it hard iv got 2 inches from water pump pulley to rad 20 inches wide and 14 tall i found 9 inch fans through jegs that i can fit next to each other but they do 600 cfm is that enough.

You need over 2000 cfm. The more the better. Look at bigger mechanical fans, and not necessarily flex ones either. Also consider moving the radiator to gain clearance. The popular choice for electronic fans is the Ford Taurus fan.

If you end up needing to do two smaller fans side by side, SPAL makes the highest flow fans in the aftermarket line.
They are not cheap, but get the job done. Most aftermarket electric fans have a cfm rating at 16 volts. SPAL fans are rated using around 13.5 volts.

get a shroud on there, covering the whole radiator, and you may clear up the problem right away(as long as all the other parts in cooling system are the right ones. art

A 12" fan? That's tiny. The stock V8 fan is 16" or 17".

I would consider 17" to be the minimum. Got a Griffin radiator for sale in the for sale forum........... 8)
