painless wiring

Postby SOLSAKS » Fri May 04, 2012 12:35 pm

has anyone ever used painless wiring brand harnesses?

I have a 1977 notchback-coupe MONZA-factory 305-V8
doing away with heat-a/c and blower motor
so, only the headlights and all signal lamps and a radio
using aftermarket guages to monitor heat, oil pressure, etc.

since the harness has been abused
is the painless wiring brand solution a good idea ?

The only complaints I've heard are about their pricing.
It may be a good idea to check out American Autowire. http://www.americanautowire.com/

I am installing a painless wiring kit right now, pretty straight forward

I installed a Painless harness in my Impala about 10 years ago and was very satisfied with it. But there are a lot more options out there now.

Question:After reading about who installed what make of wiring harness, what kit/harness did you use? How much? Can you order a harness/kit for a specific(?) car? If not, what other kits/harness would work ? Any input would be welcome, thanks in advance.

The one I did was the Painless 18 fuse generic harness with the GM column plug. I think it cost $399.00, but that was 10 years ago. It came with some terminals and connectors, but most of the accessory plugs were not included. It was my first wiring project and was really easy to do, just a ton of crimping and cutting. I replaced every wire in the car with that harness. But before I bought another Painless harness I'd check out Hot Rodz, I've seen their harnesses at shows and they look really nice. Painless does do some specific harnesses for the cookie-cutter projects like Camaros and Mustangs, but they are REALLY expensive.

I own an auto electric shop & I've done quite a few of the Painless on Classic Cars, mainly Camaros & Mustangs. But American Wire has better quality kits
