Fuseable link

Postby Bobrsss » Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:13 am

I burned up my fuseable link in my 73 Vaga. Not a very reliable part. Anybody know what the best way to bypass/rewire the circuit to eliminate the fuseable link?

If you eliminate / bypass it, and the problem that caused the fusible link to fail in the first place still exists.. you could be asking for a big meltdown? I could be wrong.

Maybe there's a modern solution someone knows about. Just thought I'd shout a quick answer out..

I agree, fuseable links are very reliable. If it melted you better find out why. I would not bypass it, you need to fix the problem and replace it.

I think the reason for the fusible link besides the protection part is its location. The wiring is around oil/heat etc.. that might make other types of protection fail for normal applications.

Those guys are right on nailing down the problem first if you haven't already done that. From the net Many manufacturers have replaced fusible links with fuse elements or maxi fuses.

Off this site (lots of pictures) http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/hweb1.pdf

I would like to see what you finally do. Brian
