Petronix or points conversing for 4cylinder cars?

Postby Corellian Corvette » Sat Oct 27, 2012 2:30 am

Hello I'm new to the board so will likely post a ton of questions.

I was on summit racing and they don't seem to list any type of Petronix or electronic points conversion for a vega 4 cylinder.

Is such a thing made? Did later cars have a different distributor that can swap?

Thanks!

Go here and look through their catalog. Unless Summit and Jegs have changed their site, I don't think they list everything Pertronix offers.
But I'm not sure about 4 cyl. conversions.

You could swap in an HEI from a newer Vega, or upgrade your points distributor with a Pertronix kit. If you go to their website, you will have to provide the actual part # from your OEM distributor as they don't use the usual year/make/model lookup. Or just contact their tech people, tell them what you have and they will have a few different choices for kits. They have some "universal" kits that can be adapted to pretty well anything .A few years ago, I managed to get from them an electronic conversion for a 6-volt, positive ground, 1948 Ford 1-ton with a flathead motor.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

You want the one that also fits a 4 cyl Jeep (maybe postal jeep). I don't remember the part number anymore. I bought one a few years ago, works great. Mark
The only Vega's that only had a little rust were the ones still on the assembly line.

Jeep used the Iron Duke 153(2.5 liter), do the distributors interchange with the 2300 Vega motor?
