Oil pressure switch jumper

Postby Fastmax32168 » Sun Dec 29, 2013 6:22 pm

Is the jumper wire that connects the heavy wires together in the oil pressure switch connector for my my 77 originally V8 monza something that the factory installed? IE because it came without an electric fuel pump that protective circuit was bypassed?
Thanks

That does not sound factory to me. As far as I know all V8 Monza's had the electric pump in the tank. Sounds like someone installed a mechanical pump and bypassed the oil pressure circuit.

Interesting. If you go to rockauto they have oil pressure switches listed for V8 monzas that have 3 terminal and they have them that have only 1 terminal. If you look at the 4 cyl cars only the 3 terminal ones are listed. My car did have an electric fuel pump in it when I bought it, so I dont know why someone would have bypassed it since new senders are under $10. This car is full of mystery. LOL

One possibility is low oil pressure. Another is too lazy to fix broken switch.

It may have been jumpered for diagnostic purposes and then forgotten. Back in the 80's when I was buying and parting out H-bodies, I would jump the oil pressure sender to make it easier to start a car that had been sitting for a while.
