Coolant temp sensor location

Postby TK5759 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 11:45 pm

Hey all, new member and proud new owner of a '76 Astre! Mine comes with a 140" and a 5-speed. I plan on eventually doing a resto-mod so I can continue to use it as my daily driver.
My question is this: I haven't had any luck figuring out where the stock temp sensor is located on the block/head and was wondering if someone could kindly help me out. I'd like to put in an aftermarket gauge instead of relying on the dash light (cooked a 455 once, long story...). Could someone possibly provide me a picture of where to locate this sensor?

Thanks spencerforhire! My block just has a plug in that spot so I wasn't 100% sure. If this is where the temp sensor goes, where is the idiot light wired to?

Whoops; that pic must be of a GT. I guess there should be another green wire somewhere, possibly in the intake manifold coolant passage.
