V8 Tach Conversion question - swapping circuit boards?

V8 swap in my 72 GT is coming to a close. One of the last things is to modify the tach.

I have the correct capacitors and the instructions - and one thing I noticed is there is an option to "swap the circuit board from a v8 tach"

I have several old Firebird gauge clusters from 2nd gen cars. Probably have 3-4 working tachs with lousy faces.

As anyone done the circuit board swap? Is that easier than adding the capacitors (I'm lousy at soldiering)?

Pics would be great.

That's the way I've done all of my Vega tach conversions. The F-body (I've also used late-'60s X- and B-body ones, as well) circuit board swaps right in.

Good to knoW! I'll grab some cores and see what's possible. Do you have any pictures so I can see what to expect?

I don't have any photos, as my conversions were done years and years ago. It's a simple swap - just match up the three pins for the board and away you go.

I pulled the tach from a late 70's Firebird and the boards are completely different. The tach board in the Vega is pretty small. The F-body one is much larger and pins are in completely different locations.

Which model boards did you use?

Thanks!

I've used boards from a '68 Impala, '69 Nova, and '71-'73 Camaro.
