Just as Clyde said, the jumper is "only for testing purposes"; unfortunately I do not remember exactly where the pressure switch is on a 2300. Someone on here must have a pic of where to find it. If your is defective, they are still available.

Thanks again for everyone's help. Now all I need to know is where the oil pressure switch screws in.

The oil pressure switch is towards the bottom of the block just behind the oil filter.

And the saga continues- I was putting my interior back in earlier and heard what sounded like a piece of re-bar falling on concrete. Got out to look and nothing had fallen but I smelled electrical smoke and saw it coming from the wiring under the hood on the driver's side. It was over as quick as it started but everything is dead. any ideas? Maybe fusible link?

Unless you had the key on while you were working on the car, this new problem is unlikely to have anything to do with the oil pressure switch repair. Fusible links would be at the starter, not the driver's side. If it back by the firewall, it could have been in the connector where the wires come through the firewall.

I pretty much figured it was something not connected to the oil pressure switch. Been going over the wiring diagrams and am wondering if maybe the new problem is related to the ignition switch. Just taking a shot in the dark- I am open to any and all ideas and suggestions!!!

I'll ask the question- "Was the key on when it happened?"; if it wasn't, there are only few things that could cause a short with the key off; headlight switch, horn relay, lighter socket or dome light.

If your car is upside down, the oil is no longer over the sump and oil pressure drops. The pressure switch then cuts ignition feed to the fuel pump to keep it from pumping the tank dry and feeding any fire from the crash. This is why GM cars with electric fuel pumps have this safety feature.

Spencer- the key was not on when the short occurred.

Maybe the battery feed from the starter to the fuse box grounded out. Sometimes, the fuse links at the starter get mistakenly replaced with regular wire and the line is then unprotected. Pretty easy to pull out the front harness connector and inspect the wiring. Is there any amplifier feed wires to the rear that could have been pinched when installing the interior?

I have checked as much of the wiring I can get to and nothing is jumping out at me as to what could be wrong. Totally stumped- anything else I need to consider?

Pulled the wiring off the starter this morning and the fuse link was still intact but was hanging on by a single half broken wire. Looks pretty old so I think I would be money ahead to just replace it instead of repairing it IF I can find one. Next is pulling the fuse block and checking connection on it. Any other advice or ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!

Any auto parts store would have a fusable link, but just like the fuel pump switch jumper, for "testing purposes" just eliminate it. If you see smoke, disconnect the battery  .

It was getting spark and gas before the electrical system went out. I was putting the kick panel on the driver's side back in when It sounded like a piece of metal fell on the floor of my garage. I got out of the car and looked under the hood and saw and smelled electrical smoke on the driver's side. I disconnected the battery and left it alone for a few minutes then hooked it back up and everything was dead.
