Battery cable replaced

Hey, the PO had spliced the battery cable so I replaced it. The problem I've come across now is the second wire to the battery. The PO had spliced 5 short wires together to go from the battery to the starter's small post, the battery cable I got from the donor car has a similar wire but it's too short to go to the same post. Where is this wire supposed to be connected to?

Not sure what the PO had there, but there is not supposed to be any battery wire to either of the small posts of the starter. The large top post of the starter solenoid is normally used as a distribution point for the whole electrical system. The 10 or 12 gauge red wires from the alternator and to the fuse box and ignition switch hook up to the main battery cable there.

Ok thanks. Where does the smaller gauge red wire connect to when the time comes? Alternator?

I just want to make sure everything is correct when I re-start the car. Here's my starter and the wires to it. What goes where please.

Probably too late but the large battery cable and the two smaller wires in your hand with fuse links, go to the large 3/8" stud on the starter solenoid. The purple wire with small eyelet goes to the S terminal on the solenoid. The R terminal on the solenoid is unused.

If you can't get your head in there to see which terminal is the "S", viewed from the front it's on the right . So if the starter is on the passenger's side, it's the one closest to the block.
