no starter

Drove the car started fine. went to restart and does not turn over. There is no power at the purple wire at the solonoid when the key is turned. Starter bench tested fine. Also when the key is turned the amp gauge drops near zero.

Really need more info to make a proper diagnosis, but it could be anything from a fusible link at the starter or near the firewall junction to a bad neutral safety(or clutch) switch. Year, make, model, engine and trans would be helpful.

Also with the amp gauge going to zero, sounds like a major short in the circuit.

1976 skyhawk 350 buick motor 2004r trans The wiring that went to the clutch switch now goes to the nutral safety switch on the b&m shifter.

The purple wire should be fed from the starter, to power the fuel pump while turning over to "prime" the system, [IIRC] so if that is dead try jumping the solenoid to the starter direct. Harry

Before getting too crazy, I'd start with the battery connections. I almost put a starter in my pickup one time just to find the battery cable was loose on the starter.

Wired in a push button and car starts now. Will have to look into the harness/ignition switch on the column. At least it will run for now though.

The small micro switch that comes in an aftermarket shifter is way too light to handle the amperage necessary to engage the solenoid on a GM starter. I'd start looking there.
