WTB Don Hardy SBC motor mounts

Postby truck6driver » Wed Feb 25, 2026 12:13 am

Like is stated,

I'm doing a 4.3L engine swap into an Astre and want to use the Don Hardy SBC swap mount kit. Since they aren't produced anymore, looking for a used set.

they look like they would be relatively easy to fabricate.

using v8 mounts will pull the rear of the engine forward. The pan might not clear the crossmember/steering.

Thank you for the information. I did not know the Don Hardy moved the engine forward. Was that for distributor clearance?

No, it’s because it’s a V6. You’re missing the front cylinder of the V8, so the motor mount bosses are moved back closer to the bellhousing. Thus, the whole engine is moved forward relative to the chassis. You’d have to fabricate a bracket to move the engine rearward for oil pan clearance.

Are you swapping a 4.3 v6 or v8?

Actually, the 4.3L V6 motor mount bolt bosses are the same distance from the rear of the block as the Small Block V8. Yes they just removed the front 2 cylinders, but they did not relocate the motor mount location.

Plan is to install a 4.3L V6 with the plan to install the GMC Syclone turbo set up at a later date.

My error. I was looking at the distance from the front accessory mounts and not the rear of the block.
