Well, I picked up my black Spyder in Torrance (and drove it home to Toronto) so a SoCal event would be kind of a homecoming for it.

Aside from the rad blowing a half hour into the 2,500+ mile drive, it was a truly awesome experience. I did the trip in a couple weeks, with no A/C, in July/August where temps hit 110. At the time, I had a brother in Denver and another in Chicago so I spent extended times there to break the trip up quite nicely. I'd love to do something like that again but it would have been nice to have a passenger ... WAIT ... I did. lol

I bought my Road Hawk in Phoenix and drove it home to Toronto too a couple years later, but this tiem, Michelle was with me. We ended renting a Uhaul truck and tow dolly because I wasn't totally confidant in the powerplant getting us across the country (I would have risked it on my own, but I had Michelle with me on this trip so ... take no chances). Again, stops in Denver and Chicago to break up the drive. We ended up driving the car home from Chicago, figured I was close enough to home, knew the area from visits etc and the car gave us NO problems for the last 9 hour drive home.

Just makes having these 2 cars that much more special to me, considering the lengths I went to acquire them, and the trips to get them home.

GM H-Body Registry

Postby fyrftr50 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:25 pm

Easiest way to get the ball rolling is to send a mass email to everyone in SoCal and get some feedabck that way. Use the GM H-Body Registry for this as California has a fair number of owners and cars listed. It is a start for sure! Thats just one of the many uses I figured the REgistry would be good for when I restarted it a few years back.

I'll do it once I get my Vega running. Should be later this summer (crossing fingers). I definitely want to get together and show you what the West Coast can do :D

I might be up for that. The local PD probably wouldn't take kindly to my car on the street with the slicks and parachute, but it is still licenced, registered and fully insured. :D

That'd be fun, but I don't know if I can make the trip, at least in the Astre itself. I don't know if the 3.73's, TH350, and a 26" tall tire combined with a 16 gallon tank (with less usable fuel) and a 440 horse motor would take the 6 hour drive too well!

At least last time I wen't to Cali, there wasn't a gas station ever 100 miles! lol!

Maybe if I dolly it.

Holy shit!!!! Your Willie is awesome!!! Oh man, I love your rims... nice job. Your car reminds me a lot of a Mustang that Chip Foose did on Overhaulin'.

Josh,
When I get my Vega running I'll roll it out to Arizona one weekend. It'll have to be a cooler weekend, though, because my car only has free air ;)

Speaking of which..Check your PM box.
LAter,
Colin
