it's funny that in all of those, MINE was the largest one!

Not like I'm some egotistical maniac or anything, it's a larger res because it's sized for the computer screen at work (yeah sure).

I know.

Incidentally, REID! PM me with your email address... the one I have bounced back tonight.

Sure did, buddy...drove it onto the trailer; drove it off the trailer; drove it back on the trailer; then drove it off the trailer again.

That way the mileage backwards and forwards always matches, and the odometer stays at '0'. :D

Smartass! Good to see it drove on its own power though, couple years back I don't think it came off the trailer. You driving it around town at all or is it still alwork in progress with all you want to still do with it?

I only had it at Quaker in '06...it ran then, too!

Still a few things to finish, and a few more things added to the list this year. Didn't find out until Sunday that the new a-arms hit the wheels when I turn short. Need a bit 'o grinding there.

Alignment....different master cylinder....carb tuning. Very close, just need to find time. Sunday was a good motivator, though.

Haven't had a chance to post since Sunday. Had a good time at Quaker. Really nice to see everyone again. The trip home turned out to be a pain in the butt. Made it about 14 miles into PA When the car started to buck, surge and finally just stopped running. Of course it had to happen on the Turn Pike in a construction zone with no safe area to pull off. Figured it was The fuel pump but no way to do a road side repair. Ended up I had to call for a flat bed.

You have to use a service that has a TP contract. Turned out to be a nice company but they could only get me off the pike and not the additional 30 miles I needed to go. The plan was to haul the car to a restaurant just off the pike unload the car and call another flat bed. Nice plan, horrible execution. When we went to unload the monza the motor that tilts the bed crapped out. My car was now a hostage on the flat bed. Ended up having to go to the towing company's lot so they could back up their spare flat bed and haul the car from one to the other then tilt it to the ground. By the time all this was done and the "other" flat bed arrived I didn't make it home till 10 at night. :bang:

Sorry to hear about all of that. What a pain. At least you did make it home safely!

Seems like the flat bed service should have taken you the last 30 miles as a service to make up for the breakdown.

Did the problem indeed turn out to be the pump?

When it rains it pours. There is a independent repair shop just down the road from my office. They do the work on my vehicles when i can't or don't have the time so I had them diagnose the issue and it indeed was the fuel pump. They charged me 1 hour labor and the cost of the part. On the way home with the car tonight it started fine but seemed to run a bit rough. I was about 2 miles from the shop and the car stalled :cuss: I was committed to an on ramp and about 1/8 mile of bridge so I got the car re-fired and went for it. About half way across the bridge the car started to fill with smoke and I saw a molten fireball fall from under the car. :cuss: :cuss: Right at this time I noticed the speedometer had crapped out and the smoke was beginning to clear. SOOOO hear is what I have come up with. Yes the fuel pump needed replaced. Somehow during the tow or repair my speedometer cable must have got knocked onto the header, melted and froze. It now needs replaced. I hope it didn't wipe out the gear in the transmission. My timing may have been slowly going off its setting as the distributor can be moved with a bit of force. And the icing on the cake is I'm not sure my carburetor is functioning properly and as I don't know much about them I guess its time to buy a book and figure out the issues.

I worry about it all the time (especially when running a track 300 miles from home).

:D Well the old girl lives and lives well  I spent the day going over the car from top to bottom. Started by replacing the burnt speedometer cable. By the way a 77 Camaro cable works great. It measured out at 79 inches and left me enough room to reroute it well away from the headers. I did have to add a retainer bracket to help hold it in place. Wow I was under there I replaced the clutch cable as well. That turned out to be an incredibly simple job and has made a huge difference in clutch feel. I was on my original cable.
Note to self: Old gas can really :censored: things up. The issues with the carb seem to be related to crappy fuel and has cleared up with a liberal dose of Sea Foam added to the tank along with fresh gas. I reset the idle and checked the timing and all is well. Now all I have to do is make time to drive her and enjoy.

Mike,

Your experience is why I wasn't able to attend this year. I started to replace my fuel pump a few weeks before the meet and ran into much trouble. Still have not got the car running correctly. This week I should have my Bosch in-the-tank fuel pump installed and the carburetor rebuilt. Then I feel like I will have a reliable enough vehicle for a long trip - such as the MonzaQue on August 1!

Advance Auto Parts lists a Bosch part #69552 fuel pump for a V8 1979 Monza as a replacement part. It cost $41.99 and I received in in a few days. It came with the installation parts including the 'sock".

Bill

P.S. Your repair shop that did this work for 1 hour labor must be very efficient and honest!
