transmission mount

Postby 77 Spyder » Sat Jul 01, 2006 3:54 pm

I have two monza crossmembers. One has two parts to it, seperated by rubber enegry absorbers. That unit has a single slot in it for the traditional style, single slot transmission mount. Pretty sure it was an original V8 automatic crosmember.

Then, I have a second that is one piece, but has two slots in it for the transmsion mount. That one came from a 4 cylinder automatic car.

What style mount is the strongest? I looked on advance auto's web site & the one list for a 77 V8 car, is the two bolt style. Not too sure whats the best & strongest.

If its the single slot version, I need to find out were I can get new rubber bushings, or absorbers for it. They are dry rotted & pretty much falling apart.

Thanks!

I think the aftermarket urethane mounts will work with both.

What style is typical with the V8? Or were both styles used?

wow, this one i actually konw what your talking about. Yes the two-piece trans mount is for the auto. I converted my auto trans crossmember to the manual style with the two bolt mount. IMO the two bolt mount just looks stronger. I believe somewhere you can order a polyurethane two-bolt mount thats pretty tough. This might take too long to type so i'll add a pic.

Interesting... Looks like there are a few versions. The one I have that is a two piece like yours pictured, has only the single slot in
the center. The one I have with two slots is a solid one piece member. I think I am going to lean towards the dual slot one peice & see if I can get a decent mount for it.

I had one of the two piece style that came on a four cyl/four speed. It had a small hole for the clutch return spring. The crossmember is two piece with round bushings holding it together. The mount is the single post type. This is also like a mid 80's camaro. The bushings are the same. My 78 V8/auto is a one piece crossmember with the two bolt mount.

Seeing my two piece unit is rough, due to rotting rubber, I think I will see if I can get a mount for this one piece. Its a from a 77, 4 cylinder automatic

Well, I got the mount, & something is not correct. It looks to me that the transmsion is too far to the right side of the tunnel.

The good news, is it gives me plenty of room for my shifter, but I am thinking this is not the correct alingment for the driveshaft.

Any thoughts?

Anyone?

It looks like the mount I have in place has the mount holes close to the center of the cross member.
