im new here.. torque arm question t350

hi im building a 80 sunbird with a t350.. can i use just any tail to mount the torque arm or does it have to be a h body tail? stock rear end and stock torque arm. can i just fab somthing up to use a regular transmission? my buddys giving me a t350 but i dont think it has T arm holes. fab a crossmember for it?

You can certainly fab up something, but if you're not in a super big hurry the proper tail housings pop up on e-bay frequently. Or you can put the word out here and someone may have one laying around that you could nab.

thats cool.. i wanted to do a 700r4 but the 350 is a lot cheaper. OD would be nice but its not a mandatory. what years 350s had this tail?

A Short tailshaft TH350 is what you need. I snagged one out of mid 70's Malibu once upon a time. Don't know what years they were available, but if it is a short tailshaft TH350 it should work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't short tailshaft housings with the torque arm mount only come on H-bodies?

Also if you are converting a "longer" tailshaft Turbo 350 to a "short" shaft" you also need the correct short output shaft to match the short tailshaft housing.

Paul,

You are correct only the H-bodies came with a tail stock that had the holes for the torque arm. however you can remove that housing and put it on any TH350.

well heres a wrench in the works... now im going 700r4! lol i was just at a friends shop tonite and hes got a 700 core (2nd gear was slippin) for like 50 bucks! so now i dont have to worrry about these holes. its a 89 f body trans. my converter cost just went from 250.00 to 735.00!!!!! redneck racing 4500 for th350 to precision industries 4500 with lock up
