Clutch cable questions

Postby 77 Spyder » Sun Jul 02, 2006 9:38 pm

Are there differences in certain years on these cables? I have a cable from a 80 spyder that does not appear to fit a 77 correctly at the firewall. The 77 was an automatic car, so it just had a rubber plug in the firewall. The 80 cable has a offset plate on the end at the firewall, it has one screw that must secure it. Am I missing something?

Here's a picture of an 80 cable, but I couldn't find anything on the 77

80 to 77 should be a direct interchange.
should be the same for v6 as well as v8.

4cyl could be a slightly shorter cable. with the ends being the same.

the 75 cable was the different one...the attachment was the same, as was the outer caseing length.
The cable was much longer and it wont interchange.

Did your cables look like the one above? That one looks like what I have now, But it has a different sized hole in the firewall, & I don't see a dimple. I'll look again tomarrow. Maybe I am missing a part.

Yes it look very much like that but it does not have the rubber isolator on the end with the threads, But what do you mean, a different size hole where the cable housing sits in the firewall, and if so explain please?

I just had a chance to look at my car to see where exactly the cable bracket sits. I circled the area where the dimple should be, looks like you may have to clean the area off with some carb cleaner to get the body sealer off of it.

Cool!

I wonder if there is supposed to be some sort of rubber gommet that seals it?
The cable fitting is smaller than the hole

Cable gasket

Postby Elfmagic » Thu Jul 06, 2006 8:09 pm

My cable end doesnt have any gasket on it and never did, that i know of, since i put it together 12 years ago. i suppose you could see if you can find a o-ring to fit the grove around the end or use some body sealer to put around it, but i dont think its necessary. But if you did then it would not hurt anything anyway. have fun with her and keep shifting gears !! :burn:
