Empty Turbo 350 Capacity

Postby HI WINDING MONZA » Mon Dec 03, 2007 6:22 pm

Anyone know the capacity of a Rebuilt- Empty Turbo 350? I put a quart in the 11" convertor when I mated it to the trans but I remember getting a junkyard tranny a few years ago that took a couple gallons to get it to read on the dipstick. Doug in AZ 8)

Thanks, Matt, I picked up 13 single Qts of Type F hoping it would be enough since I cleaned them out. ( they didn't have a case) I'm not running a cooler since I have a stock convertor and a Derale cooler pan with a extra 1 1/2 Qt capacity. Doug in Az 8)

Type F? Any specific reason for that?

Maybe it's personal preference, but my transmission guy told me to put Dexron/Mercon in my rebuilt trans... the Ford trans for the Edsel!

Type F is a bit thicker and will make for firmer shifts. I also heard there are friction modifiers in it to help with slippage.

Josh, Type F is pretty close to B&M Trick Shift fluid. Late 60s - late 70s Ford trans were made to shift hard from the factory............. GMs were made to shift softer. Doug in AZ 8)

Of the 13 quarts, it took 12 1/2 . ( including 1 1/2 extra for the deep pan) and +1 in the convertor . No cooler is used. Doug in AZ 8)

type f tranny fluid

All the HP tranny companys tell you to use the type F as it is much grittier and makes all the clutches grab much better. Thats the rteason they do not recommend synthetic, as its too slippery. Maybe better for cooling a tranny, but definitely not better for the solid shifts at high RPM Chevy Art
