Shifter

I am using the 2004R transmission in my Monza with the factory console.
Is there any shifter that has the overdrive psition and will fit inside the console?
I can make a filler piece atound it.
The stock shifter won't go to the low position.

I use the B&M Pro Ratchet in everything I own. Here's the installation in my S10:

I have since lowered the rear of it, remade the support bracket tipping it back toward me a little more. One cool thing about these shifters is that the handle stays in the same place, it springs forward or back, but ratchets back to center every shift. I used a Quick Click in my Vega 25 years ago, which is essentially the father/grandfather of the Pro Ratchet. 8)

You could use a shifter from a third gen camaro etc. but it is not going to work without modifying the console.
You might be able to attach the third gen shifter to the stock shifter mounting base or use the detent from the third gen shifter on the monza shifter.

If you are mechanically inclined it is possible to modify the factory shift detent (the thing inside the shifter with the notches). A new detent would have to be made and the arm at the transmission would need its length modified to shorten the amount the shifter moves at the console for each shifter position thereby maintaining the same total shifter travel as stock but with one exta shifter position. Also the shifter position indicator will need to be renumbered.

This guy modified his shifter as described above but he did not modify the lever arm length at the tranny so his total shifter travel is extended beyond factory and the console needs to be modified.

I believe I have seen pic's of people using a B&M Megashifter within the original console.

I agree ken mahoy did this using model 80694 for a 70-81 camaro with console

I used an aluminum plate under mine. Drilled holes to mount the plate to the tunnel using the original fasterners/holes. Then just mounted the shifter to the plate.

I went to B&M web site and looked at both the 80692 and 80694 the 92 is for 82-92 Camaro and the 94 is for 73-81 Camaro with the exact same shape console as on my Monza.
the 92 shows for a rectangular shaped console.
Judging by the instruction sheets where I got my info the 94 looks right.
Truth is probably either will fit.
I don't have a clue as to the difference betwee the two, probably only the instruction sheet :D
CORRECTION: in checking the B&M site and looking closer I find that the shifter pictured by stage 169 is in fact a 80692.
Anyone have a pictue of a 94?

I'd like to see how that looks after installation. I also plan on using a 200-4R, but I'm going to try using a short throw Lokar shifter. I put one of these in my S-10 and it looks like a factory stick.

Jut FYI, when I put the 200R4 in my 78 Wagon, I found the stock T-handle shifter already had provisions for a 4th gear notch, with some slight adjustment with a small file I was able to engage it and use the stock shifter. With the stock TH350 the cable did not travel enough to let the shifter go into the last detent. I thought it was odd, but it worked out well for me.

Personally I had a Megashifter back in the 80's in a 67 Lemans, I never liked the issues I had with the reverse lockout sometimes not disengaging. Made it a PITA to use on a daily bassis,
