Rear end questions

Postby Broon72 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 1:18 pm

I'm going to buy my dad the stuff to put his s10 spindles and s10 axles. I have read that I need the ball joint adapters and the smaller bearing and race for the pinion but can you use the s10 or vega axle seals? Or is there special ones to get. Also I have a spare 72 chevelle 10 bolt rear end it has a posi in it, wondering if we could use the guts out of it with the s10 axles. Let me know so I can order the parts for the swap. Thanks

what year vega are we talking about??? As you can only replace the rear axles from the s10 into the vega rear end if its a 76-77 vega with the 7.5 10 bolt, the earlier vegas had a 6.5 rear end in them and they are not the same. You would need to change out the entire rear end from a 2wd s10, then use the vega axle mounting brackets on the s10 rear end. it will then bolt right into a vega and is the same width.

the s10 2wd front spindles will go on with the taper adaptors, or convert to s10 balljoints. The chevelle rear end stuff will not interchange with the vega stuff or the s10 stuff.

The vega is a 75, so the rear end needs switched then. I think I'll search for a older rear end.

just get a 2wd s10 rear end, you can get one from a 4cyl truck will have a 4.10, v6 trucks have either 3.42 ratio or 3.08 ratios. Positraction ones are very common. Youll just need to scarf off all the rear axle brackets and have them put on the s10 housing and you have upgraded the whole rear axle, and get your gears and posi all in 1 shot. this will be the most economical and easiest way to do it.

Were are you located? I actualy have a 2wd S-10 Axle with 4.10 gears that I no longer need, I was going to remove the ring and pinion, and scrap the housing, but if you are close I would sell the entire thing Drum to drum for $100.00

Yes they should fit.Your stock axles in the monza should be 26 spline so check the spline count on the s10 axles but they should be 26 also if from the years you mention and 2wd.

It is difficult to get the torque arm bracket etc. on a larger rear cheaply. The 7.5 H-body rear from 1975-1980 can be upgraded to 28 spline axles and 28 spline posi .

We can Machine the 7.5 ring andf pinions to fit the 7.5 H-body housing and then use the 7.5 27 spline yoke from a Nova 75-1979 7.5 or s-10 also

Conversion u-joint will be needed with the s-10 yoke but that is VERY common part.

I can build 8.5 12 bolt 8.8 VEGA 1971 1974 rears four link. Just built this one.

I also have a similar question, What S10s came with rear disc brakes that fit a 73 Vega?
