Trans mount for TH-350

Postby BBM66 » Fri May 04, 2012 11:43 pm

73 Vega....287 ci...th350. I am using the Don Hardy engine and trans crossmember with the Sanderson cc 13 headers. heres my questions:
1- Can anyone give me a part number or name for the transmission mount that goes between the transmission and Don Hardy crossmember??
2- Where or how does the Hardy crossmember mount to the car? I do not have instructions so I could use a little help here. Looks to me like plates are needed on both sides of the floor to bolt the crossmember to. Am I way off base here?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you in advance!

a mount for a 73 Camaro should work.
Anchor - Automatic Transmission Mount
Part # 2378

OR
Energy Suspension - Automatic Transmission Mount
Part # 3.1108G

the outer ends of the Hardy trans crossmember used self tapping screws into the thicker part of the unibody.
Hardy Vega headers were designed more for drag racing and angled sharply outward, OK for racing but harder to put mufflers under the car.
so the Hardy trans crossmember tends to obstruct the routing of exhaust pipes.
The Hooker/ trans-dapt crossmember is shorter and bolts thru the floor leaving a lot more room for exhaust underneath the car.

thanks for that link. the trans mounts i have allready :D but i was trying to figure out how to do that outer mount, not a superfan of the idea of self tappers but we will see, maybe a rivnut.

and yea, with these it does look like its going to limit exhaust a bit, i also just noticed from some pics that the headers also exit at a funky angle, but might be able to fix that.

got any pics of the other mounts you are talking about?

For the outer bolts on the Hardy crossmember you could tap the unibody for a regular 3/8" bolt, the metal is thick there

power by ace also makes a 71 to 74 crossmember:

the rubber mount sits on top of the crossmember so the trans sits right

Just got my new Don Hardy kit today and had the same question. The outer mount hole falls between two existing holes. I thought mine was the wrong P/N, or made too narrow. I'm calling tomorrow to get their suggestions.
Also hoping they get their headers back into production.

The outer mounting bolts on the Don Hardy trans crossmember are supposed to be large self tapping screws.
Locate the trans crossmember using the two inner bolts then drill 5/16" pilot holes and install self tapping screws in the outer locations.
Hooker/TransDapt or Power By Ace type crossmembers leave a lot more room for street exhaust systems.

Thanks for posting that, mine did not come with instructions. No, I'm not using a self-tapping screw (also not included) to install my crossmember. Shhesh, I thought the Don Hardy stuff was the best. So this mount also restricts my street pipes, didn't see that coming. I may need to fab an entire new crossmember. I'm also about ready to abandon hope on their headers and have some made.
