28 Spline Axles for 7.5" rear

Postby avewhtboy » Wed Oct 03, 2012 2:25 pm

I am thinking of buying Zexel Posi unit forthe stock rear axle in my Astre, which means I will need some 28 spline axles.

I assume I have 26 spline now, so did they make 28 spline axles for the Vega or do I get S10 axles, custom etc. ???

The '93 and up S10s should all have 28 spline axles. GM was phasing the 28 splines in from 1990 thru 1992, so it's a crap shoot which ones you get in those years.

I just put the Zexel in my car, but I also have an S10 axle in there. So I'm not 100% sure, but I think those S10 axles should fit in your stock H axle.

I had a G80 in my S10 and it was a piece of junk, took it out and installed a Zexel and I was really happy with it, very quiet and locked every time i expected it too.

I still have the 26 spline axles I took out to replace with 28's in the S10, I guess I need another set.

Is it true the pinion bearing needs to be machined or special bearing or was that for the 6.5 axle, all these things start
to run together after while

Yes it's true you have to change the pinion bearing or machine the pinion. I went the route of using the entire S10 housing so I don't have personal experience there.
