Don Hardy 12 bolt?

Postby 71LS1Vega » Sun Apr 21, 2013 8:30 pm

I Have a 12 bolt rear end in my vega with the correct brackets, Im trying to figure out if the parts were from Don Hardy. It also has C clip eliminators with different axle housing ends welded on. I dont know what axles i have but i assume they have been shortened or aftermarket. The bearings on them are RW-507 Federal bearings and there are some castings on the axles but not sure if that helps. Having a 6-speed i need to know if i should be buying aftermarket ones or if i already have them because i dont really want to snap them at the track.

only way you are gonna know is to pull them , stock 12bolt axles are pretty strong even if cut down , and being in a lighter car adds to that as there is less strain on them

you cant shorten stock 12 bolt chev axles as the shafts are parallel the entire length, so you cant respline them. ford axles you can as they are thicker than the spline area, so when you cut them down there is meat to respline them. if you have cut down axles they are probably aftermarket axles.let us know what you find out art
