I have a 74 Vega I'm doing a v8 swap. I wanted to know from what year S10 could I swap out the rear end with? I'm looking for one with a posi. Is there modifications to be done or does it hook right up which I doubt. also do i have to use an S10 or can i use a Camaro or corvette rear end? And will the drive shaft fit? Or is there another car I could get that from?

S10 2WD rear ends are the same width but you will have to weld the brackets off the Vega housing onto the S10 housing.
Or a later Monza or Vega rear housing with the torque arm setup can be used with S10 axles and brakes to get 5 lugs.
There are a couple places that offer a bolt in 9" ford housing for the early 4 link Vega's

Swapping rear ends is somewhat involved. You have a multiple of years S-10 rearends to choose from but I would go with the late model stuff since disc brakes are a bonus. Most all Posi units will be found in S-10 Extremes T-5 combo. A fairly rare deal. Here is my link to my 8.5 swap.

4cyl s10 2wd will have either 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratios and were available with gov loc positraction. The v6 s10's had 3.08 or 3.42 gear ratios and also were available with gov loc positraction. I would look under the s10's from 1990 and up as they are the 28 spline axle and alot more heavy duty then the earlier 26 spline units.
They l were the 7.5/7.625" ring gears except for a hard to find 8.5" units that were in the 4.3 v6 with 5peed stick only 2wd trucks, They had the "w" code engine in the vin. They are pretty rare to find but they are out there if you look hard enough.

As long as you get a rear axle from a 2wd you can swap on your original vega rear axle brackets and it will then bolt right in and be 2+ times as strong as the stock anemeic vega rear end.
