Turbo 400 fluid capacity

Postby rpoz-29 » Thu Oct 10, 2013 6:49 pm

I need to replace the pan gasket on my old Chevy C-10. It has a 400 trans in it and I'm replacing the filter while I'm in there. Any idea how fluid I'll lose when I drop the pan? I'm thinking 3-4 quarts, but I'd like a little more expertise. Thanks for any advice.

The total capacity of a TH-400 is actually more in the 10-12 quart range, but there will be 3 or so still trapped in the torque converter when you drain it. Don't expect your average 6-8-quart oil change pan to hold it all!

Good advice. I used the catch pan I use for diesel oil changes. :)
