The center of the s10 t5 shifter is about 11.5" from the bellhousing face.
On my v8 camaro t5 its about 21.25" to the bellhousing face.

I have heard of people swapping the S10 tailshaft housing and shifter onto the WC T5 trans to get the forward shifter position. The 93 and later T5's went to the Ford bolt pattern so they wont work with the Monza bellhousing.
It may be worth a look at the early V6 S10 T5 before cutting a new hole.
Later T5's only have provisions for electronic speedometers.
Bad part is finding the right T5 in good shape may be a chore, while a free Saginaw is available.
what is the shifter to bellhousing measurement on the Opel trans ?

You don't have to worry about the Ford pattern, I think S10 V6 T5's with it's bell should mount right up to a SBC. The Camaro V6 T5's have a different bell because it uses the Buick 3.8 V6.

Looks like 83 to 91 S10 T5's would be the closest

Chevy S10 1993 and up T-5 (Most models)
26 spline input shaft
Same input shaft length as standard Chevy V8
Ford bell housing
Electronic speedometer
Some T-5s used in 1993 had GM/Chevy bell housings. If yours has a GM bell housing and the input shaft is too long, then a Hamilton S10T-5 should be used to install it.

Chevy S10 1992 T-5
14 spline input shaft
Long input shaft (Requires Hamilton S10T-5 to use with a V8)
Chevy bell housing
Electronic speedometer (Convertible to mechanical)

Chevy S10 1983-1991 T-5
14 spline input shaft
Long input shaft (Requires Hamilton S10T-5 to use with a V8)
Chevy bell housing
Mechanical speedometer

Chevy Camaro V8 T-5
26 spline input shaft
Same shaft length as standard Chevy V8
Chevy bell housing

Chevy Camaro V6 T-5
14 spline
Long input shaft (Requires Hamilton S10T-5 to use with a V8)
Chevy bell housing

Ford Mustang V8 1983-89 T-5 Non-World Class
3.35 first gear
.73 Overdrive
Non-tapered roller bearing on input shaft
Aluminum throw out bearing retainer
Ford bell housing

Ford Mustang V8 1990-93 T-5 World Class
2.95 first gear
.73 Overdrive
Tapered roller bearing on input shaft
Steel throw out bearing retainer
Ford bell housing

Ford Mustang V8 1994-95 T-5 World Class
3.15 first gear
.73 Overdrive
Tapered roller bearing on input shaft
Steel throw out bearing retainer
Ford bell housing
7/8 longer input

Ford Mustang 4cyl Turbo T-5
Smaller pilot bushing diameter
.86 Overdrive
Lower first gear
Ford bell housing
We have checked everything to the best of our ability, but please keep in mind that this information is provided with no warranty therefore YMMV."

IIRC the 5 speed offered behind the 2wd 4.3 V6 was a Getrag with an intergrated bellhousing that used a hydraulic clutch throwout bearing.

Stock Vega pedals and cable hooked to a V8 Monza bellhousing.

This one is still available for a 73 to 79 Nova it has a 2 1/4" offset that puts the shifter stick in the center of the trans.
