T-50 dust cover

Postby kgroombr » Tue Jul 29, 2014 11:33 am

Does anybody have a mod for a T-50 dust cover that goes around the shifter? Via google, I found a lot of shift boots, CV covers, etc. that may work, but am hoping that someone has already identified one that is a good fit.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

They're pretty much unobtanium. I used one from an S-10 T-5 - I don't have the part number handy - fit pretty well.

Thanks Chuck. I googled a bit looking for one and am coming up dry. If anybody can shoot me a link to one, I would greatly appreciate it.

The T-5 boot is round. I haven't tried it but maybe it will stretch to fit. I have also used RTV to fill in the slices in the T50 boot where it opens up from use.

Ken,

Here's one on eBay. It also shows a GM part number, if you'd rather get one from the dealer. Yes, you'll have to stretch it a little, and work the round hole over the rectangular shift lever, but I thought it was better than a ripped original.

Sorry no link, but it may be one I saw in my searches, but didn't look right. Here is one I found on ebay:

Is this the right kind?

Thanks,

Here's a couple of shots of one I bought 2-3 years ago. The top shot is a little blurry but should give you the idea. I believe this is the correct part.

Ken,

I don't know what happened to the link, but here is one to the vendor that was on eBay - on sale!

Thanks all for the info, but I went a different direction. I used an inner transmission boot for a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40-45-55.

The Toyota part number is 33555-55011, and it looks like this:

Here it is installed:

It is a tight fit, but once I stretched it on, it holds tight and looks like it will last a while.

For anybody wanting to use this, it fits the shaft nicely, but when I say it is a tight fit, it take a bit of stretching to get it around the opening, but it will work. I have been using it for a week and it is holding tight.

I would like to see other fits, but this one I am happy with.
