Converting to 5 lug axles today. Was told this is an Eaton posi. Unscrewed the retainer pin/bolt and usually the axle shaft retainer piece slides right out. I cannot get any movement up or down. Pin is fully removed. Do you need to beat on it or press it out on a posi?

I had this prob on my current carrier. But I think it's an Auburn posi. I had to somewhat beat it out. I hadn't had this issue on the few other h body's I had changed carriers on.
I'd like to know if this is normal also. It wasn't super hard to get out/in but def had to work it out with a hammer and a bolt.
Everything seems fine after reassembled.
Wondering if maybe the retainer pins can warp or bend slightly to cause this. And a new one might slide in normal.

I checked and the retainer bolt is intact so thanfully not broken off inside. I will use a brass punch and see if it will budge. Carefully...

I think it is a corrosion issue caused when the axle sits for a few years, the pin is a tight fit and any corrosion at all can make it harder to remove. I have had to tap out the pin a few times, but they did not require a lot of force just a couple of sharp taps with a hammer and punch.

It did come out with a little punch and hammer action. Axles are out. No galling. Must just be tight.
