Blew up my Monza posi 7.5 - suggestions please

Postby 71GTKammback » Wed Jul 26, 2017 9:12 pm

Blew up the stock monza 7.5 2:29 posi unit in my town coupe. The ring and pinion look okay from what i can see. I have a non posi rear end 7.5 2:29 that is in good shape. What are my options these days? I do not have the skills to do it myself. Wondering if there are eaton style posi units available for 2:29 gears.

I ran a mini spool in my stock 2.73 open carrier super hard for 23 years and only twisted the splines on one stock axle slightly once.

That included drag and street racing, flat towing, slicks, a 144 HP Pontiac151 with a 4 speed with a 7200 rpm limit and a 350 hp 425 Cadillac with a full manual Turbo 350.

That also included 3.42 and 4.56 gears at other times . Its only annoying around turns, lol :D

Pretty good for less than $100 . :th:

Ended up putting an Auburn Posi unit in the Monza. Works perfectly with zero noise or chatter when going around corners. Cost some bucks but it even has a warranty now...
