Th350 missing a gear

Postby craigw125 » Tue Aug 22, 2017 12:24 am

We just bought a kammback with the automatic 3-speed and we took it for a drive and realized that we are missing second gear. It starts out in first gear but then just shifts through to third gear and I was wondering what the problem could be.

-Thanks,
Craig

Craig, Remember that these have now "Been around the block" and any number of things could have happened! I will not say that your transmission isn't bad, but the aluminum glide did come in the early Vega's [you said Kammback, that was only referenced from the factory for Vega] and someone may have swapped in a " 'glide" from another Vega not knowing that it was a 2 speed, the shifts from those seemed like they were missing a gear. Also possible was a shifter swap from a three speed car. And of course the tranny could be bad, just climb under the patient before you are set on a "diagnosis", that is all I am suggesting.
