How to id a 12 bolt rearend

Postby T-FATTY » Mon Jul 29, 2019 11:43 am

This weekend I've started working on the delivery I bought a while back. Bleed brakes and adjusted rear brakes, my question is what year 12 bolt rear doesn't have slots in backing plates to adjust brakes? The drums have slots to adjust brakes, any idea what year rear end it is?
Thanks, Todd

12 Bolts were only made from 64-72, the Don Hardy Vega 12 bolts used the big Impala brakes and housing ends which have pressed on wheel bearings and no C-clips. The older factory drums had the slot in the drum, later on they were in the backing plates. Now some aftermarket replacement drums dont have the knockout slots. iirc my 66 had drum slots.
There should be date codes on the center housing but the brakes may be a different year.
