200R4 Shifter

Postby cammerjeff » Sat Sep 30, 2006 9:35 am

I am looking for ideas for installing a stock apearing shifter for a 200R4 in my 78 Sunbird wagon. All ideas welcome!!!!!!! On the larger cars I have done this swap to (A & F bodies) it was easy as I just bought a conversion kit from Shiftworks. But they don't offer one for the Vega style shifter. My car has the long consel in it, but I have an extra short one available if that helps.

you need to get the the cable brackets that go on the trans for monte ss then you have to grind the shifter detents to get the positions correct .i did it in my 78 wagon

Heinz057,

Thanks for the reply, I never actually thougt about just removing the detent plate from a 4-speed shifter, I actually have one from a mid 80's Firebird and it looks like I can adapt it to the stck shiftet.

Thanks for the Idea!!!!!!
