Rejoyce, my storage just got much cleaner, after realizing that tires over 6 years old are garbage regardless of how good the tread still looks.

Although, I need something to get the dismantled cars to be able to roll away.

Six years? Is that a fact or opinion? Because I don't have a life, I checked around and couldn't find any such six year rule. here's what BFGoodrich has to say.

"...service-related evolution varies widely so that accurately predicting the serviceable life of any specific tire in advance is not possible...
....Tires which have been in use for 5 years or more should continue to be inspected by a specialist... such as a tire dealer... at least annually....
....It is impossible to predict when tires should be replaced based on their calendar age alone .....
....While most tires will need replacement before they achieve 10 years, it is recommended that any tires in service 10 years or more from the date of manufacture, including spare tires, be replaced with new tires as a simple precaution even if such tires appear serviceable and even if they have not reached the legal wear limit...."

A six year rule is great for Grandma, but a zillion factors come into play with old tires. The website is telling you to check the code and avoid buying new tires that are six years old. I sure wouldn't want to pay full price for six year old merchandise, so I agree.

That being said, I would be bankrupt if i had to replace tires even in a 10 year window. I've spent the last twenty years taking other peoples tires off their hands and using them for years. Before he closed up shop due to health issues, my favorite used tire guy and me would always have a good laugh over what I was up to.
Bias Ply tires will not die, I still have a pair of BF Goodrich Belted TA's on my ride that I bought new in 1983. They are garage kept, have no weather checking and have 1/2 tread yet. My plow truck has two tires about that old. My utility trailer has a pair about 30 years old taken off a Vega!
Radial tires will also last if cared for.My wifes car was bought from my mom, who had a set of Dunlop radials mounted used about 8 years ago. The tires are probably 11 years old now are are slowly getting replaced as they belt shift. I feel that the direct sunlight all summer long is killing them. There is a set of Radial TA's bought in 1987 floating around here too. They move from car to car as needed for road use, replacing the rollers. There are more examples, but this is way too long as it is!
