Last Efforts For '08

Postby Stivan » Mon Dec 08, 2008 1:05 am

Well, the year is over with.. .here in my neck of the woods. But the last event at KCIR, was an "un-official" Street Rad Shootout" that several players out of the VAMP Heads Up Racing Series, who got together, put some money in for entry fees, also had several local sponsors. In that race, they had two classes, the "All Out" class, and the 12.50 class. Being that the Vamps Series races all Street Legal Vehicles, virtually all cars were "Street Legal". . .Sponsorships paid $50 for the following: Quickest 60' Time. . . .Quickest 1/8th Mile Time . . .. Fastest 1/8th Mile . . . .. Fastest 1/4 Mile, and $100 for the Quickest two pass average.
The only limitations to all of this, was that the cars all had to have "True Street Radial Tires" No bias-ply, no Drag Rads or ET Streets, but True Street Rad tires.

All of this was done from timeslips only, with the track keeping score of all the entrants. So reaction times had nothing to do with it. All of us got in four passes, with a few making five. The track put a 4:00pm time limit on it, after opening at 12:00 noon. This is where the fun came in. In the last 15 minutes, with the All Out leaders, the lead changed 4 times. . . I was fortunate to get to make the last pass. And for this event, I took my Outlaw Street Car, put a set of M/T 31 X 16 X 15's on it, and also an old Fuel Delivery System built by C and S Carbs in STL, that I had laying around the shop for the last 2 yrs, and spent 3 of the 4 passes I made trying to figure out tire pressures, shock and spring settings, to find something that would work. . . . Finally, on the last pass, I set the launch rpm to 2500, tripped the tranny brake, rode the brakes slightly about half way through low gear, until all the drive train finally caught up with the motor, and laid down a 10.314/138.95. That particular pass took all of the above money, except the 60' short-time money, of which I did a 1.711 against a competitors 1.709.

Last Pass 1.711 . . . 6.784/111.19 - 1/8th . . . 10.314/138.95 - 1/4 mile.

All in all. . . .we all had some of the most fun ever, for this year.

Are you running a full cage in that puppy,,,if not what do you have,,I'm limiting myself to 10 flat so I don't have to go through all the saftey requirements, like a cage, fire suppression,trans/engine wraps, license,,I want to have fun,,not spend myself out of the hobby, last question,,,whats the race weight of the car,,mine is at 2720 wet and going on a diet this winter, hope to get it down to 2600 even by removing the door braces and bumper reinforcements, let me know what you have,,

Yes, I have a full cage. . . . The car weighs 2980 with ass/gas. . .. Car is NHRA Cert for 8.50's. I'm running a Pro Mod type back-half w/9" Ford(Disc Brake off of a Mark) geared 4.30. . . .Street tires and slicks are both 31x16. Also running a JW Glide(SFI approved). Don't have to worry about bell shield/trans blanket, and all that "greasy" stuff. Still have all the "factory glass" in it. Firewall has been moved back 6", so I have to have the "full cage". . As stated before, motor is a 512 BB w/Merlin,Wiseco 14:1, 6.8 Eagle ESP's, Eagle Stroker Crank, Comp Cam .805 SR, Dart 345 Pro 1's ported by Darling Head Service, flowing 454 @ .700. Carbs (All of Them) by C and S Specialtys in St Louis. I have three of them. A single 1050 cfm for 10.00's, a pair of 750 Doms on a Weind T-Ram that run 9.30's, and a 1400 Blo Thru Alky Carb for the M-3 Procharger(only 7lbs), that runs 8.50's (that's all my cage is good for). . . Oh Yeah ! all of this is done through muffs. Ignition is a Holley Pro Annihilator, that isn't made anymore. I bought 3 of them off of the I-net, and hope thats enough to last me. Why they quit making these, I don't know. I only know that it is the most versatile ignition I've ever found.

Believe it or not. . . all of this is street legal. It may be stretched to the limit, on Street Legal. . . . but it is. . One other thing, I've got three convertors for each combo too. . . .all of these are from "Redneck" in Texas. . . I have no complaints what-so-ever with this guy's stuff. I just tell him what I've got, and he has always hit the nail on the head, with each one. At a fraction of the normal cost too. I've never torn one up yet either.

I stuck the single 4 barrel on the dyno once, it kicked out 815hp @ 7200rpm 765 torque @ 5450. Then put the car on a chassis dyno a couple of wks later, and at 3000' air, it pulled 650 rwhp, with the single four. . didn't figure I had anything to prove by dynoing the other combo's. . .. Any more questions, just holler .
