Vega-Camino

Postby Kristjan » Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:33 pm

I was browsing the Internet and found this rather special Vega that probably started it´s live as a Wagon.
What do you think of this Vega ? I personally find it cool because it is so one of a kind, but then again that´s a good thing

Best regards.

I think the idea of the Vegamino is very cool 8) to bad GM did not built them back in the 70's and put them in the Vega line along with all the other models they built I'm pretty sure they would had sold alot of them I seen one sitting in a salvage yard that somebody tryed to build it was the 71-73 style.

Where have they all gone, those and the 4x4 Vegas? I remember years ago 10 or so there were lots of them on epay. Almost got a 4x4 panel wagon, still kicking myself for missing out on that one. Anyone got any more pics of them or the 4x4's?

Matt, I deleted the Monte wagon. Sorry, but I hope this makes up for it. http://jalopnik.com/325728/heads-up-mid ... mino-alert

I downloaded these pictures from this very board; don't know who posted them originally. I captioned them "El Vagino" but didn't realize how dirty it sounded 'til I said it out loud!

These 3 little trucks show some different approaches, but none of them look "right"; the proportions are just not pleasing to the eye. The roof is too short on the red one(I know I'd hit my head on the back window if I sat in it, and I'm only 6'1") and on the white and blue ones the bed looks too short with the b-pillar too far back over the wheel opening. The only cure for this might be a longer wheel base and a piece spliced into the 1/4 panel in front of the rear wheel. A whole lot more work for sure. Something else that might help in the proportion department would be to start with a hatchback instead of a wagon; the lower roof line could make it look less "stubby". Not that I'd ever cut one up myself; just dreaming out loud.

A quick "photochop" to illustrate how one would look with a little stretch. My apologies to tjcoyote59, as his was the only wagon I could find a straight on side view of. It actually looks kind of "Australian" (not a bad thing!)

This is my take on a Vega pickup using a Vega Nomad as the base.

Actually, tjcoyote59's car looks pretty nice with the stretch job.
To bad we will never see it or one like it at the track like that.
