relocating park netural switch??

Postby vegon71 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:55 pm

As I laid in the floor of my Vega today tinkering with the new brake after changing it to an automatic setup, I looked up and said uh oh, forgot about the park netural switch that was attached to the clutch before. I know I COULD just jumper it but I would rather have the safety feature intact. Has anyone moved it or got some other kind and maby hooked it to the shift linkage????????

my car had a bm shifter in it before i changed it to a stick the b m shifter had the nutral safety switch incorporated into it and i just put the wires on the stock switch on the clutch pedal when i switched it over if you use an aftermarket shifter it should be the same in reverse.

Having done the auto to stick conversion a couple of times, I think the plug for the clutch switch is the same as the one on the OEM aotomatic shifter's park/neutral switch. Like 73astregt posted, most aftermarket shifters have some provision for a neutral safety so all you really have to do is extend the wires a couple of feet.

There must be some provision for a park/neutral safety on the Hurst Quarterstick; all aftermarket shifters have them, street of race. You might have to order one from Hurst; this pic might not be the exact one, but they are available.

That's not the switch used in a Hurst 1/4 stick, though common in many other shifters.

The Quarterstick uses this switch.

There is also the optional microswitch inside the above switch that turns the backup lights on.
