Ideas? there are a lot of them, and you don't
have to tub it. The main concern here is how much
force the rear end will have to endure. If you use the
stock rear with a 383 stroker and regular street tires,
all yer gonna do is spin, so the rear end doesn't
take any force.

If you want traction, that rear
will not be long in this world. You might get a few
good launches, but it will fail you.

If you
plan on getting traction and putting good power to it,
there are several options. There is a way to swap in
the (somewhat) stronger S10 pinion and gears, keeping
your stock housing. You will want to invest in
stronger axles as well.

Another possibility is
narrowing a 12-bolt and changing the brackets to fit. No
narrowing required. You could also do the same with any
other rear.

And I am sure there are many other
possibilities. No need to tub unless you need more rubber for
traction. you should be able to fit an 8" slick in the
wheelwell.... should be enough... Your problem is limited to
axle strength and how much stress you put on
it.

I think that Hardy
still offer a bolt in
rear end
for your car...

I wouldn`t use
the 7.5 behind
more then 350 Hp...

if the
car spins a lot it will hold
(maybee) but if it
hooks very well
then you`ll be in for a
towing..

Traction Kills!! But on the other hand you
wouldn't believe the abuse I've seen them take behind
small blocks and big blocks. All with a lack of
traction these were nova or camaro rears the stock h-body
rears are not as strong Ive seen pinion gears snapped
clean in half. Like with any other drive train part the
lighter the car the longer it will live! There have been
articles in super chevy about how to make a ten bolt
survive maybe someone can recall when and foward it to
you.

Good luck

If you can find can find a 57-60's ford Galaxie
500 or Country Squire wagon it has a 9 in you can put
under your car just put your brackets on it. I have one
under my 76 vega. The rear end is about 3/4 to 1 in
longer than the stock housing. They have pretty good
gear ratios to mine had 3.89 gears it was from the
wagon.Hope this helps you out.
